Because almost the entire route follows the A7 motorway, the travel time is reliable and rarely affected by the kind of mountain bends or single-lane roads found on other Moroccan routes. The main variables are Casablanca's own rush-hour traffic and whether you add a short stop along the way. There are no major detours: it is essentially a straight, flat run between the two cities.
Your driver leaves Marrakech and joins the A7 motorway heading north-west across the Haouz plain. This toll motorway is modern, two lanes in each direction, well-signposted and maintained to a high standard — the most comfortable kind of road in the country. The landscape opens out into the agricultural plains of the Chaouia region, with olive groves, wheat fields and scattered farming towns rolling past the window.
Roughly midway you pass the junction town of Settat, where motorway service areas offer fuel, clean restrooms, cafés and snacks — a convenient point for a quick break on a hot day. From there the motorway continues toward the Atlantic coast, and the open countryside gradually gives way to the industrial outskirts and then the dense urban grid of Greater Casablanca. The Hassan II Mosque is Casablanca's defining monument and the single most-visited sight on this route. Completed in 1993, it is one of the largest mosques in the world, built partly over the Atlantic on a dramatic seafront promontory, with a minaret soaring around 210 metres — among the tallest religious structures anywhere. The scale, the hand-carved cedar, marble and zellij tilework, and the retractable roof make it an extraordinary feat of Moroccan craftsmanship.
Unusually for Morocco, the mosque is open to non-Muslim visitors through guided tours, which run several times a day except on Friday mornings and during prayer times. Tickets are bought on site and slots can fill up, so an early visit is wise. Modest dress is required, and you remove your shoes before entering the prayer hall. There are three common ways to travel from Marrakech to Casablanca, and the right choice depends on your priorities. The ONCF train is comfortable and inexpensive per seat, running several times daily, but it takes around 3 to 3.5 hours and still leaves you to find taxis to and from the stations at each end — adding time, cost and hassle, especially with luggage or after a long flight. The CTM or Supratours bus is the cheapest option but the slowest, with fixed departure points and limited space for bags.
