Leaving Essaouira's breezy Atlantic ramparts behind and heading east to the vibrant Marrakech medina is one of Morocco's great contrasts — two completely different worlds just 190 km apart. The drive takes approximately 2 hours 45 minutes via the A7 motorway east, through the argan forest region of the Haha territory.
The route from Essaouira to Marrakech passes through one of Morocco's most distinctive landscapes. The argan tree forests of the Haha region — ancient, twisted trees unique to southwest Morocco and now a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve — line the road for much of the journey. You'll often see argan oil cooperatives offering tastings and sales at the roadside.
This is a private, door-to-door transfer. Your driver meets you at the medina gate or your hotel in Essaouira (the medina itself is car-free) and delivers you to your riad or hotel in Marrakech.
Not included: Return trip, guided tours, entrance fees, meals.
Meeting point: Essaouira's medina is car-free. Your driver will meet you at Bab Doukkala (the main gate near the parking area) or at your hotel if it is accessible by car. Confirm the meeting point when booking.
Departure time: Depart by 10:00–11:00 AM to arrive in Marrakech in early afternoon. If you had breakfast at a seafront cafe and explored the morning fish market, this timing works perfectly.
Argan cooperative: A brief stop at an argan cooperative can be arranged. These women-run cooperatives produce authentic argan oil and sell at fair cooperative prices — a worthwhile 15-minute stop if you haven't yet bought argan products.
On arriving in Marrakech: The afternoon arrival is ideal — you'll catch the medina in its beautiful late afternoon light before the Jemaa el-Fna square comes alive in the evening.
Fixed price, confirmed via WhatsApp. Pay your driver on the day.
